JUDO (Black Belt 3rd Degree)
Judo, meaning "gentle way", is a modern Japanese martial art (gendai bud) and combat sport, that originated in Japan in the late nineteenth century. Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the object is to either throw one's opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue one's opponent with a grappling maneuver, or force an opponent to submit by joint locking the elbow or applying a choke. Kicks, punches, chops and thrusts are also practiced, but only in pre-arranged forms. They are not allowed in Judo competition or freestyle practice. According to the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA), judo is one of the four main forms of amateur competitive wrestling practiced internationally today (the other three being Greco-Roman wrestling, Freestyle wrestling and Sambo).

BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU (BJJ Blue Belt)
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting with the goal of gaining a dominant position from which to force an attacker to submit. The system developed from a modified version of pre-World War II Judo including some techniques from Japanese Jujutsu and with a focus on ne-waza (ground technique). It promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person using leverage and proper technique can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant. BJJ can be trained for self defense, sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition. Sparring and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition.
At 46 years old Brian was the 2004 Joslins Canadian Open Submission Grappling Champion in the -184 lb division. He entered the tournament after never competing in grappling before and finished the day with 6 wins and no losses competing against fighters 25 years his junior.
Recently after training with BJJ Black Belt Instructor Sean Wilson in Fort Myers, Florida at his Black Truck Martial Arts Club , Brian traveled to compete in his second tournament the North American Grappling Association (NAGA) Miami Open where he won his second title and was awarded his Blue Belt in BJJ after the tournament. He is currently training at Kombat Arts in Mississauga.
